The project focuses on the research of Nabataean remains in the semirarid region of Wādī eṯ-Ṯemed in the highlands of central Jordan. Its goal is to collect data concerning the use of land and water, natural resource management and settlement patterns in the Nabataean-Roman period.

Previous campaigns have revealed 31 Nabataean-Roman sites in the area. The main focus of research is on those sites which can – due to their specific topographical setting – demonstrate the clustering of architectural remains, the high number of Nabataean surface finds, their connection to hydraulic installations and man-made modifications of the landscape. These can be interpreted as Nabataean agricultural settlements.
