In 2022, the German Society for the Exploration of Palestine is awarding the Helga Weippert Prize for outstanding dissertations or habilitations in the fields of the archaeology, history, religion, culture and regional studies of Palestine for the first time. The prize is endowed with €2,000. It serves to promote young scientists in German-speaking countries and is named after the biblical archaeologist and Old Testament scholar Helga Weippert (1943-2019). This year’s scientific conference of the German Society for the Exploration of Palestine takes place from 09.-11.12.2016 at Erbacher Hof in Mainz/Germany. The conference is entitled “Temples, Synagogues, Churches and Mosques. Sacred Architecture in Palestine from the Bronze Age to Medieval Times”. A detailed program can be downloaded here.
