The German Society for the Exploration of Palestine is organizing a conference on “Representations of Goddesses and Gods in Palestine” in Mainz from December 2 to 4, 2022. The conference venue, the Erbacher Hof, is located in the center of Mainz, close to the cathedral. Fourteen lectures by researchers from Germany and abroad will deal with the topic of representations of gods for different time periods from the Chalcolithic to the Roman period. In addition, two key notes will present results of recent excavation projects in the region. For the first time, the Helga Weippert Prize for the promotion of young scientists will be awarded during the conference. In 2022, the German Society for the Exploration of Palestine is awarding the Helga Weippert Prize for outstanding dissertations or habilitations in the fields of the archaeology, history, religion, culture and regional studies of Palestine for the first time. The prize is endowed with €2,000. It serves to promote young scientists in German-speaking countries and is named after the biblical archaeologist and Old Testament scholar Helga Weippert (1943-2019). This year’s scientific conference of the German Society for the Exploration of Palestine takes place from 09.-11.12.2016 at Erbacher Hof in Mainz/Germany. The conference is entitled “Temples, Synagogues, Churches and Mosques. Sacred Architecture in Palestine from the Bronze Age to Medieval Times”. A detailed program can be downloaded here.
